Image Resize and Crop
Resize an image to the exact width and height you enter, choose the output format, set a compression level, and download with or without compression.
or drop an image here
Drag a rectangle on the image, then fine-tune it: drag inside the box to move it, or drag any corner or edge handle to resize it. Click "Apply & preview" to preview the cropped image, or "Reset crop" to start over.
Keeping the original format stops a JPEG ballooning into a large PNG. Move the slider to set the compressed version, then choose "Download with compression" or "Download without compression" (100% quality) — you decide whether you want only a resize or a smaller file too.
How to use resize and crop
Choose Resize to scale the whole image to an exact width and height, with the lock icon keeping the original aspect ratio so it doesn't stretch. Choose Crop to drag a rectangle directly on the image and keep only that section. The quality slider controls how much the output is compressed — lower values produce a smaller file, higher values keep more detail.
When to resize vs. crop
Resize when you need an image to fit an exact space, like a profile picture requirement or a website banner size, without losing any part of the original composition. Crop when you want to remove unwanted edges, focus on a specific subject, or change the aspect ratio, such as turning a landscape photo into a square for social media.
Frequently asked questions
Can I resize and crop the same image in one session?
Yes. Switch between the Resize and Crop tabs as many times as you like before clicking 'Apply & preview' — for example, crop first, download that result, then re-upload it to resize separately.
What happens if I type a width but not a height?
With the aspect ratio lock enabled (the chain icon), entering a width automatically calculates a matching height that preserves the image's original proportions, and vice versa.
Why did my cropped image come out blurry?
This usually happens if the cropped selection is very small relative to the original image and is then displayed at a larger size elsewhere — cropping keeps the original resolution of the selected area, so a tiny crop will naturally have fewer pixels to work with.
Can I undo a crop selection and start over?
Yes, click 'Reset crop' at any time to clear your current selection and return to the full, uncropped image before making a new selection.
Frequently asked questions
Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?
Only if you change width and height proportionally. Enter both values to set an exact size.
Can I enlarge a small image?
Yes, by entering larger dimensions, but enlarging cannot add detail that was not in the original, so the result will look softer than a photo taken at that size. For best quality, resize down from a larger original rather than up from a small one.
Is there a crop selection box on this page?
Yes. Open the Crop tab, drag a rectangle on the image to select the area, then fine-tune it: drag inside the box to move it, or drag a corner or edge handle to resize it, and download the cropped image.
Will resizing make a small image sharper?
No. Enlarging a small image cannot add detail that was not there. Resizing works best when making a large image smaller.
What size should I use for a profile picture?
Use the size the platform asks for, if it states one. If not, a square such as 400 x 400 or 800 x 800 pixels works well for most profiles.
