Passport Photo Maker
Upload a photo, remove its background, pick a country size, and download a passport photo or print sheet.
Step 1 — Upload your photo
or drop a photo here
Sizes shown are the commonly used passport/visa sizes — always check your country's official requirement, as sizes can change.
Step 2 — Background color
First use downloads the background-removal model (about 40 MB, cached by your browser). If it stalls, press Remove Background again — it retries and resumes from cached chunks. Your photo never leaves your device.
How this tool works
Upload a photo, and the background removal step runs a small AI model directly in your browser to separate you from the background — no photo editing skills required. From there, choose your country's official size, pick a background color (most countries require white, light blue, or light grey), and drag to position your face within the frame before downloading.
About the print sheet option
Many passport and visa offices, as well as photo print kiosks, expect a 4×6 inch sheet with multiple copies of the same photo rather than a single image, since this is the standard size most photo printers and pharmacy kiosks accept. The print sheet option automatically arranges as many copies as fit onto a 4×6 inch canvas at 300 DPI, with thin cut guides between each photo.
Getting a good result
Background removal works best on photos with reasonably even lighting and a clear separation between you and the background — a plain wall a step or two behind you tends to work better than a busy or dark background. If the automatic removal leaves rough edges around hair, try retaking the photo with more even lighting rather than a different background color, since lighting has a bigger effect on removal quality than what's actually behind you.
Frequently asked questions
Will this photo be accepted by my country's passport office?
This tool produces a correctly sized photo with a plain background, which covers the two most commonly rejected issues. However, official requirements also cover things like facial expression, head tilt, glasses glare, and lighting, which this tool cannot fully verify. Always check your specific country's official guidelines before submitting, especially for passports and visas.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photo is processed entirely inside your browser. The only network request made is a one-time download of the background-removal AI model itself (not your photo) from a third-party CDN the first time you use the tool.
Why does background removal take a while the first time?
The first use downloads a machine learning model to your browser so background removal can run locally rather than on a server. This is a one-time download per browser session; it is not re-downloaded every time you process a photo in the same session.
Can I reposition my face after removing the background?
Yes. Drag directly on the preview to reposition, and use the zoom slider to scale the photo within the frame before generating the final image, so you can center your face and shoulders correctly for the size guide lines most photo booths use.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the first background removal slow?
The AI model downloads once on first use and is then cached by your browser, so later removals are much faster.
What photo works best for background removal?
A clear, front-facing photo with good light and a plain background works best. The subject should be centred and fully in frame, with no other people close behind, since busy backgrounds make the cut-out less clean.
Which country sizes are included?
Commonly used sizes include United States and India at 51 x 51 mm, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Germany/Schengen, France, Australia, Japan and the United Arab Emirates at 35 x 45 mm, Canada at 50 x 70 mm, China at 33 x 48 mm, Saudi Arabia at 40 x 60 mm and Turkey at 50 x 60 mm, plus generic 35 x 45, 50 x 50 and 35 x 35 mm sizes. Sizes shown are the commonly used passport/visa sizes — always check your country's official requirement, as sizes can change.
What background colour should I choose?
Most passport and visa applications require white or light grey. Choose the colour your application asks for; light blue is also offered where it is accepted.
Is the downloaded photo accepted everywhere?
The tool produces the right size and background, but acceptance also depends on the photo itself — face position, lighting and expression must meet your authority's rules, so check their photo guidance before submitting.
