About Page Numbers PDF

Page Numbers PDF adds page numbers to every page of a PDF. Choose the position, the starting number and the size, and the tool stamps a number on each page in order. It is made for reports, manuscripts, contracts and handouts, where “see page 12” only works if the pages are actually numbered.

Unnumbered documents cause real confusion in meetings and in print: pages get out of order, references fail, and a missing page goes unnoticed. Adding numbers to the file itself fixes the problem for every reader and every printout, rather than relying on a reader's own page count.

How to use Page Numbers PDF

  1. Choose a PDF with “Select PDF file”.
  2. Check the page preview — every page thumbnail is labelled with the number that page will get, so you can see the file loaded and the numbering before you download.
  3. In the options panel, choose the position, the starting number and the size.
  4. Press “Add Page Numbers and Download”.
  5. Download the numbered PDF.

Why use Page Numbers PDF

Numbers on every page, starting where you choose, in the position you choose.

Common uses

Common uses include numbering a report so meeting participants can find the same page, preparing a manuscript for submission, numbering a printed handout for a class, and adding numbers to a contract so clauses can be referenced by page. Numbered pages also make a missing page obvious when a document is printed.

Your files and privacy

Your PDF is numbered in your browser and is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Where are page numbers placed?

At the bottom centre of each page.

Can I use “Page 1 of 10” style numbering?

Yes. Choose the “Page 1 of N” pattern in the options panel, where N is the total page count. The pattern is applied to every page, starting from the starting number you choose.

Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?

Yes. Enter the starting number in the options panel, and pages are numbered from there in order.

Will numbers overlap my page content?

Numbers are placed near the page edge. If your pages have very tight margins, choose a position with more clear space, such as the bottom centre.

Does it number the cover page too?

Yes, every page is numbered, including the first. If you do not want a number on the cover, split it out, number the rest, and merge them back.
