How-to guide
How to Calculate Age Online Free
Working out an exact age is more than subtracting birth years — months, days and leap years all matter, and getting it wrong can throw off a form or an application. This guide shows how to calculate age exactly, in years, months and days, from any date of birth to any date you choose, with a free calculator that also shows the total in months, weeks and days and counts down to the next birthday. Use the free age calculator below to work out any exact age in seconds.
How to Calculate Age — step by step
- Enter your date of birth in the “Date of birth” field.
- Enter the date you want the age calculated for in the “Age at date” field.
- Press “Calculate Age”, or just change a date — the result recalculates live.
- Read the result: years, months and days, total months, weeks and days, and days until the next birthday.
Tips
- Set “Age at date” to any date, not just today — you can work out an age on a future date, including the next birthday after it.
- Use the total in days when a form asks for it — some insurance checks and age-limit rules count total days or weeks rather than years alone.
- The result recalculates live, so change either date and the answer updates without pressing anything.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator update when I change a date?
Yes. It recalculates live on every change, and also when you press Calculate Age.
Can I calculate age on a future date?
Yes. Set “Age at date” to that future date and the calculator will show the age on that day, including the next birthday after it.
Why does the total in days matter?
Some forms, insurance checks and age-limit rules use total days or weeks rather than years alone, so showing both saves a separate calculation.
